Implant Supported Crowns and Veneers:
Before :
Young woman with retained upper right deciduous ( baby tooth ) canine and missing permanent lateral incisors. Poor gum coverage of central incisors and poorly shaped canine teeth.
Zirconia all-ceramic extensions on implants which are replacement roots. The implants were placed by a periodontist or gum specialist.
After : Lateral incisor crowns are implant supported and porcelain veneers complete the smile.
Crowns and precision attachment-retained partial dentures:
A reliable alternative to implants.
Many people who are missing several teeth in one jaw have been told that they need implants to support a functional replacement, only to learn that this could require bone grafting, or extensive surgery. For these and many other reasons such as cost, the implant idea may not be acceptable. The fixed-removable combination is a perfect alternative which is stable, esthetic, and extremely functional.
When implant-supported fixed or removable partial dentures are not practical, our experience with crowns and attachment retention for partial dentures is extremely positive. Two crowns splinted together on each side are made with an extension off the back of the last crown. This extension receives a housing inside the removable partial denture providing stability and support over the long term. No clasps are evident and the transition from tooth to crown to partial denture can be very esthetic.
Shown is a lower jaw with teeth missing the patient's lower left side. The gold bridge is on failing roots which must be removed, leaving no teeth at the back of the mouth.
The restored lower jaw is shown. Two crowns are joined together on each side and the inside of the partial denture is shown .
Implant supported mouth rehabilitation:
When all of the teeth in any jaw are lost, implants placed by an implant surgeon allow us to support various forms of replacement. The numbers of implants placed are dictated by the quality of bone available and many other factors including cost. The number of implants dictate the type of replacement possible.
Eight or more implants will support a fixed bridge of gold understructure and porcelain. An upper jaw rehabilitation of this type is shown.
Six implants will also allow for a fixed restoration. Shown is a lower fixed denture on a titanium frame sitting on a model...
... and then in the mouth. This lady says, " I can chew anything".
A gold bar with retentive clips can be made on four or fewer implants to support an overdenture which attaches with comfort, and is removable for cleaning.
